Janelle Lucyk is a leader among an emerging generation of Canadian artists specializing in old music and historically informed performance, taking ideas from conception to the stage.
Janelle is the artistic director of Ménestrel which produces alternative early music mixing ancient repertoire with oral folk traditions. She is artistic director of Musique Royale (est. 1985), a presenter based in Lunenburg, NS which brings performances to historic spaces across the spectacular maritime province. Janelle is director of the new series ArtChoral at La Grande Salle of Le 9e, the reopened historic Art Deco venue in Montreal.
With well over a hundred concerts given in 2024, Janelle performed in all of Canada's thirteen provinces and territories last year, and was also in residency in Europe through the summer with Ménestrel.
In fall 2022, Janelle was invited by legendary organist Xaver Varnus to perform at his two sold out performances in Hungary, including at the Bartók National Concert Hall in Budapest. She’s had the good fortune to perform as a soloist under five-time Grammy winner Paul Halley on many unforgettable concerts. Janelle graduated with distinction from the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles (BE) and completed her Masters in Management at Durham University (UK). Her ensemble Voces Desuper performed regularly in the magnificent Brussels Cathedral, and especially at the Te Deum ceremony for the King and Queen of Belgium.
