Andrea Gavagnin has graduated with great distinctions both at the Conservatorio Benedetto Marcello in Venice and the Conservatoire Royal in Brussels, where he then taught ornamentation and improvisation in 2024. At the same time, he won a second prize of the Bovicelli competition 2020 and was a finalist in prominent Baroque singing competitions such as the Concours de chant baroque de Froville 2020, the Cesti-Wettbewerb 2023 and the Cavalli Monteverdi Competition 2025.
Andrea performs internationally with conductors such as Jordi Savall, Andrea Marcon, Ottavio Dantone, Leonardo García Alarcón, Philippe Herrewege and a variety of ensembles, among which La Cetra (Andrea Marcon), Scherzi Musicali (Nicolas Achten), Profeti della Quinta (Elam Rotem), Faenza (Marco Horvat), InAlto (Lambert Colson), ClubMediéval (Thomas Baeté).
In 2020, he co-founded the ensemble Prattica di musica, focused on the discovery of vocal music from the XVI and XVII centuries, which is releasing its first album, “La Sirena. The first book of madrigals”, in November 2024.
After debuting on stage as Idaspe in Albinoni’s La Statira in 2019 (Opera studio Benedetto Marcello/Teatro La Fenice, Venice), he interpreted Messaggera in Caccini’s L’Euridice with Scherzi musicali (Nicolas Achten) in 2022 and Vita Eterna in A. Draghi’s Il Dono della Vita Eterna with Cappella mediterranea (Leonardo García Alarcón) in 2023.
In 2024, he was cast as Teseo in G. F. Handel’s Arianna in Creta at the Innsbrucker Festwochen der Alte Musik; in 2025, as Nireno in Handel’s Giulio Cesare conducted by Ottavio Dantone and staged by Chiara Muti.
During his time in Venice, Andrea has been a member of the Cappella Marciana of St. Mark’s, which regularly performs for the Teatro La Fenice and won an ICMA award in 2020.
He has recorded several CDs for the labels Novantiqua, Ricercar, EnPhases, Musica Ficta, Musique en Wallonie, CPO, Concerto Classics, Brilliant Classics and Amadeus, which have earned multiple awards, including two ICMA Early music awards and two Diapason award
